Christmas Feast Garden of Eden Children’s Home
The children had been waiting for this day all week long. A day to cook, dance, and celebrate. The day began with each of us doing this or that chore to get everything ready. Some children helped in the kitchen: chopping vegetables, washing dishes, setting the dining area. Stories bounced from one end of the kitchen to the other… Others helped set up a Christmas tree on the veranda.
Hours later, we gathered for the feast. We gave thanks and savoured the delicious dishes, from roast chicken to chapati to a vegetable salad called kachumbari.
After clearing the dining area, it was time to open our Christmas gifts. Children ran from the dining area toward the stunning Christmas tree on the veranda. Each gift was individually wrapped and had a name written on it. A thrilling search began with shouts of delight filling the air. Children tore the colourful wrapping. Music played in the background. Children danced.
The dancing lasted a few more minutes, then the children ran to their dorms to try on their Christmas gifts. We are grateful to the family that made our Christmas unforgettable.
