Garden of Eden Launches Kibera Teachers Christian Fellowship

Over 100 educators from various primary schools in Kibera attended the official launch of the Kibera Christian Teachers Fellowship at the Friends International Centre along Ngong Road in Nairobi. The attendees included headteachers, directors, principals, and teachers.

Speaking during the ceremony, Pastor Tom, who is Garden of Eden’s director, explained that the success of the teachers’ football tournament launched in 2025, gave rise to the Christian fellowship. “We have accomplished a lot within a short time because of the cooperation of the team behind the process. This new program aims to disciple Christian teachers and raise Christian leaders who are teachers. Therefore, we intend to undertake various programs, including seminars and conferences, tailor-made for teachers.

These programs will fit teachers’ schedules. “Since teachers pour out to others every day, they need a place to be filled. Teachers wrestle with a lot. A teacher may feel isolated and unsupported. But when we are together, you realize you are not the only one who is battling a lot. In fellowship, there is unity, and people can pray together,” he continued.
Robert Mazige, a school leader at Youth with a Mission (YWAM) Touch Jinja, Uganda, said, “Teachers are influential. When teachers stand together, they can change the world.

He added that children have dreams and visions, and educators should encourage them even when they do not understand them. They should not be dream killers. They should enable children to grow into what God purposed for them.

Timothy Svoboda, from YWAM San Francisco, quoted Jeremiah 29:7 as he urged the educators to seek the peace and prosperity of the place God has sent them. That place is Kibera. He added that they should not be weary of doing good.
