GOEden Launches the Kibera Teachers’ League Football Tournament
Teachers from primary schools across Kibera slum in Nairobi congregated at the Raila Educational Centre for the official launch of the 2026 Kibera Teachers’ League. The football tournament, under the Wholesome Educator Initiative, pioneered by GoEden Kenya, targets teachers across the five electoral wards of Kibra Constituency: Lindi, Woodley, Makina, Laini Saba, and Sarang’ombe. Each ward will present one team comprising educators from various schools in that section of Kibera. The league will run for six months.
Speaking during the event, Pastor Tom, the Director of GoEden Kenya, said educators determine the future of society because they impart knowledge. Thus, when an opportunity presents itself to give back to them, there is every reason to take that opportunity. He emphasised that the goal of the tournament is to nurture wholesome educators, and that Kibera educators are all-rounded: they are parents, counsellors, and hygiene ambassadors.
The area Senior Chief, Shaban Juma, also commended the participation of female educators. He added that the league should be a unifying factor between teachers from schools across Kibera. Similar sentiments were expressed by two guests, Omar Shaban and Justus Muhati, AFC Leopards legends. They urged educators to prioritise fair play and learn to grow friendships irrespective of the outcome on the field.
The inaugural matches were Lindi vs Woodley and Laini Saba vs Makina. Lindi Ward led with 7 goals against Woodley, who scored 5 goals, while Laini Saba overpowered Makina.
