About Saviour King School

Saviour King Education center is located in Kibera slum. Over 600 children attend this school where they learn, play with friends in a safe environment and receive a daily meal. It has become a place of reference for this kids, their parents and the community. After the partial demolition due to the highway that will be built nearby the school, the school has since been rebuilt with new and better classrooms and it’s more colorful than ever.

Education
Education is a basic human right and a powerful tool that can transform lives and communities. We exist to provide a safe-learning environment to children in Kibera.

Feeding Programme
The school through the help of supporters and well-wishers provides lunch for the children every school day which they look forward to. Most of the children come to school having slept hungry. By providing a nutritious meal at school, Saviour King Education Center is not only helping to improve the children’s health and academic success but also providing them with a sense of security and hope for a better future. It is vital to continue supporting this noble cause to ensure that more children have access to food and education, two essential elements for a better life.


Extra-Curricular Activities
There are different extracurricular activities that the school offers and participates in and this is a great way to enhance the children’s overall educational experience. Here are some examples of common extracurricular activities at the school:
Sports teams: The common sport played is football, the school team participates in many tournaments and boasts of winning trophies. Sports allows students to stay active and healthy while learning important values such as team work, discipline and sportsmanship.
Clubs: The school offers a range of clubs for students to join, this includes debate, drama, music and scouts. The clubs allow students to develop new skills, and pursue their passions.


Solar Cow
This is a program that aims to establish a sustainable environment for education and community development. The solar cow entails solar torches, storage batteries and charging stations which are for the portable batteries also known as “power milk”.
Each student is given the power milk battery to charge while they attend classes, which they can take to their homes afterwards. The solar cow project also helps power digital devices to improve children’s access to digital education tools. The solar light enables those who do not have electricity at home to study and do their homework. It also has a radio and a memory card with lessons they can listen to. This program will improve the students’ performance and ensure a brighter future for them.


ICT
Providing access to technology and digital resources is essential in today’s world.  With access to the ICT lab, the students have the opportunity to develop their computer skills and become more proficient with technology, which will serve them well in their future endeavors.
The availability of educational materials in the lab has helped students expand their knowledge beyond what is available in their textbooks, and the projector makes it possible for teachers to deliver multimedia presentations that can enhance learning and engagement. The printer is a useful tool for printing out assignments, project materials, and other necessary documents.
Overall, the ICT lab is a great addition to the school, and it has a positive impact on the students’ academic performance and future success.


Library
Access to books and educational resources is crucial for students to improve their knowledge and skills. Having access to books has helped improve grammar skills and also broadened their horizons and has provided exposure to different perspectives and ideas. Reading can also improve critical thinking skills, creativity, and imagination.


Clinic
Providing health services and check-ups for children in schools and communities is an important way to improve access to healthcare for those who may not be able to afford it. The clinic aims to provide health services that include, early detection and prevention, cost-effective care, reduce absenteeism and improve overall health for students, staff and the community
