Garden of Eden Children's Home

About Children's Home

Garden Of Eden Children’s Home has been an open home for orphans and vulnerable children since 2012. Most of the children come from Kibera, the largest slum in Kenya.
The primary goal of Garden of Eden children’s home is to provide a safe and nurturing environment where children can receive love, care, and support. The home provides basic needs such as food, clothing, shelter, and medical care, as well as educational support and mentorship.
In addition to meeting the basic needs of the children, Garden of Eden children’s home also aims to promote their emotional, social, and spiritual well-being. The home provides counseling services and organizes recreational activities, such as sports, music, and art, to help the children develop positive relationships and hobbies.

Education

Education is a powerful tool that can empower individuals and communities to make positive changes in the world. We are committed to providing children with access to quality education both at school and at home. Our kids attend school near the children’s home and are also well taught in the home by our committed staff who help them with their homework. We have children from kindergarten to university, and are proud of each one of them.

GoEden Kids

Go Eden kids is an initiative started whereby the kids have a platform in which they freely express themselves in song and dance. It had been a long time dream but it was brought to life during the Covid-19 pandemic. The children were not going to school so we came up with different activities to keep them occupied. That is how GOEden Kids –Garden Of Eden Kids was born.
GOEden kids now has a YouTube channel where we upload Christian song and dance videos and inspire others to pursue their own creative passions.

Farming

At the children home we do mixed farming where we keep dairy cows that provide milk for the children, crop cultivation and also keep poultry. Our main aim is self-sustenance.
Poultry: At the home we rear different kinds of poultry; Chicken, duck, turkey and Guinea fowl. The children get to learn how to take care of them.
Dairy: We keep dairy cows for milk and so far we have six cows. Our kids are so attached and some love feeding them, cleaning their houses and learning how to milk them. The end result is some good tasty Kenyan tea which we all enjoy!
Vegetable Garden: We practice farming and it’s a collective responsibility for all of us. We mostly grow vegetables, onions and tomatoes. Recently we began growing fodder for the cows.

Mentorship

Mentorship has a significant impact on the lives of children, especially those in a children’s home who may not have access to positive role models and guidance. By providing mentorship opportunities, we are giving these children a chance to develop valuable skills, build self-esteem and confidence, and form meaningful relationships with caring adults.

The mentorship program is well-structured and tailored to the needs of the children we are working with. This may involve identifying specific areas where children need support, such as academic tutoring, life skills development, or emotional support.

This is a powerful tool for helping children in our home to thrive and reach their full potential.

Out & About

Outings can provide a great opportunity for children to explore their surroundings, learn new things, create positive memories and have fun. We believe it’s important to expose the children to these experiences as some of them have never been beyond the slum environment. This exposure helps them to even dream bigger.

Friends & Visits

At Garden of Eden Children’s Home, we value visits from different people and groups. These visits make a difference in the lives of the children and the staff. By meeting new people, the children are inspired to strive for success, get emotional support, educational enrichment, cultural exposure. We have had short term visits by individuals, churches, youth groups among others as well as long term volunteers who have stayed with us and worked alongside us in different departments.

Skills

We offer a variety of skills at the children’s home which provides the children with valuable life skills and help them develop a sense of independence and confidence.

  • Sewing can teach them how to mend and create their own clothes
  • Cooking can help them learn about nutrition and meal preparation
  • Hairdressing can give them the skills to care for their own hair and possibly even pursue a career in the field
  • Soap making can teach them about chemistry and provide a creative outlet.
  • Musical instruments: during leisure the children learn various musical instruments such as the guitar, keyboard and drums.
  • Soccer: The kids are always looking forward to showcase their skills on the pitch and every Sunday afternoon is always the perfect opportunity for showdown!

It’s important to continue to provide opportunities for the children to learn and develop new skills that can benefit them in the future.
